We manufacture robust, durable and weather-resistant vessels which meet all regulatory requirements for safety and for sound and fire insulation, etc.

A strong alternative

Fibreglass is a strong and malleable material: so malleable, we can perform design details and so strong, we can offer an ice warranty. We use both traditional fibreglass mats and multi-axial combination mats, which have a significantly higher fibreglass content in the finished laminate. An incredibly strong alternative to steel and aluminium.

5 good reasons to choose a fibreglass vessel

Besides fibreglass’ strength, durability and flexibility during the design phase, there are numerous benefits to operating a fibreglass vessel – and you get to enjoy those.

LESS FUEL

Fibreglass is a light material, which means it can reduce your vessel’s fuel consumption

LESS MAINTENANCE

Ships made from fibreglass-reinforced polyester require less ongoing maintenance than metal ships

BIGGER LOAD-BEARING CAPACITY

A lighter ship allows you to load more

LONG
LIFE

Fibreglass lasts for generations and can be repaired without weakening integrity

NO
RUST

There is no corrosion in ships built from fibreglass-reinforced polyester

We have produced ships for over 50 years

In 1965, wheelwright Egon Bredgaard founds a small shipyard in Nysted. The yard produces small dinghies and in the 60s and 70s, the highly reliable “Nysted Dinghy”, also called the “Bredgaard Dinghy”, enters the world. As the company grows and starts to build larger vessels, it is moved to larger premises and, most recently, to Rødbyhavn, where we now produce professional commercial vessels.

Using good craftsmanship and modern methods

Since the shipyard’s founding, we have worked with hand-laid fibreglass, and we are still building ships based on the old craft. In combination with the original craft, we have specialised in vacuum moulding, which reduces styrene vapour emission by more than 90%. This protects the environment and creates a better working environment for our employees. In addition, vacuum moulding has the great advantage of increasing the glass percentage of our products – and the mechanical strength of the laminate becomes higher.

We choose materials based on
our experience and our heart

It is important to us that your ship is produced using the best, strongest and most durable materials. Material selection and careful craftsmanship mean that your ship has a long life and a high resale value. In addition to the strength and durability of the materials, it is important to us that the materials we choose are environmentally sustainable to the greatest extent possible.

We choose metals wisely

Even when you choose a fibreglass ship, there are still parts of the ship where we use metal. We use acid-proof stainless steel for screws and rudder shafts, stern rails and rails on top of the bulwark, among other things. All metals are seawater resistant.

We still build parts of your ship from wood

We use wood of the best quality and construct fittings in the type of wood you request.

Security and rescue equipment

A Bredgaard boat is always delivered with modern safety and rescue equipment in accordance with current regulations for the specific vessel. All safety and rescue equipment is wheel (CE) labelled.

Bredgaard Boats is a recognised shipyard in Scandinavia and has been authorised to perform fibreglass production by:
